I travelled to SriLanka in January 2026 with my girlfriend, and it was really a wonderful experience. Our driver Tharindu made our trip so special: he helped us building the itinerary, he drove us through all the island, he suggested the most spettacolare place to visit.

Our driver was recommended by a friend and we booked him well in advance for our Chinese New Year Holiday trip to Sri Lanka. He helped my wife plan our two week itinerary and suggested accommodation in many places. The 2025 typhoon damaged some parts of the country especially in the south, requiring us to adjust some accommodations and train travel.

My family has never had a driver before for a trip and while the main advantage is transport between destinations, it’s also helpful to get around locations. Sri Lanka does have buses, tuktuks, taxis, Ubers, and Pick Me, but especially with tuktuks, prices can vary wildly.

Tharidu was consistently reliable, polite, and helpful. He had suggestions for every place on itinerary but never pushed. We tried to balance must see/must do with avoiding tourist traps and crowds. Even on days when we didn’t need him all day, he would be on call to take us to a restaurant, ATM, or pharmacy. He was only a text or phone call away. He would join us for some meals and actually helped walk us to the top of the Pidurangala for sunset in Sigiriya. He also helped us purchase entrance tickets at several places and also accompanied us on our half day safari in Yaala.

Driving in Sri Lanka is challenging with cars, buses, trucks, scooters, and tuktuks all sharing the same road. It takes patience and finesse to navigate and share the road safely. Road conditions also vary wildly from a four lane highway to a narrow two land winding mountainous road to a narrow one way lane. Tharidu was careful every step of the way. This was especially important as my wife and daughter both are susceptible to motion sickness. Only a few times during the especially winding roads between Kandy and Ambewela, where we caught the train to Ella did we need to stop for a break. Otherwise, we were glad to have him as our driver throughout our trip.

Tharidu was our driver from the morning after we arrived in Negumbo until he dropped us off at the airport the night of our departure. I’m happy to recommend Tharidu as a driver guide to any of our friends visiting Sri Lanka and we will definitely try to book him the next time we visit Sri Lanka!
